Our history
It was only around 1510 that the inn "zum Hirsch" was mentioned in historical sources. Constructed as a detached two storey building. This includes the former brewery opposite. Today you can locate them starting on our outdoor terrace, following the entire Wannenweg beyond the main building.
Around the turn of the century 1900 the brewery was demolished. However, remnants of the Kellers still appear here and there today.
Our history with the inn "Zum Hirsch" begins in 1911/1912 with the purchase of the inn by Adolf Engst, the innkeeper of the then opposite inn "Zur Lauter", together with his wife Ottilie née Treß. The purpose of the purchase was the dowry of our "Hirsch" for his daughter Walburga.
The restaurant previously belonged to Reinhard, Freiherr von Speth-Schülzburg. One can only guess: maybe he sold it because, unlike his father, who died in 1905, he had no close connection to the place. Or it could also have been his work as a member of the Württemberg state parliament that kept him very busy. Or simply money worries, due to the last chapter of the aristocratic rule in Württemberg as a result of the bourgeois revolutions, which is in the process.

After almost two decades, the first generational change takes place. Daughter Waldburga takes over her parents' business together with her husband, master carpenter and landlord's son Magnus Kloker. With a fresh entrepreneurial spirit and full of zest for action, they expand the Hirsch. Thanks to his activities and entrepreneurial spirit, Magnus Kloker is regarded as a pioneer of tourism in the Great Lauter Valley.
During World War II, the “Hirsch” was both an inn and a bakery. In order to meet the increased demands of tourism, Magnus Kloker toyed with the idea of completely demolishing the inn and rebuilding it as early as 1939. However, the outbreak of war thwarts his plans.
In order to enable the expansion of the new country road, the inn will be moved several meters to the west as part of a large new building.
The landlords buy the former Indelhausen schoolhouse. In doing so, they increase the number of guest rooms on offer and, with central heating and hot and cold running water, provide a great deal of comfort for the time.
Son Adolf takes over the "Hirsch" with his wife Theresia Kloker, née Arnold
The Gasthof Hirsch is once again adapted to the changes and growth of tourism in the Swabian Alb. The large hall is also completely remodelled.
After several years of planning, the “Gästehaus Kloker am Ringwall” is built with 21 comfortable rooms, elevator, sauna and fitness room.
The Hirsch is expanded by an extension: a conference room, an apartment and an elevator to enable barrier-free access to the upper floors are built.

With the sons Roman and Simon Steinhardt as well as Daniel Kloker, the next generation is now working in the company.
